This past Tuesday was our holiday dinner at Asia de Cuba on Madison Ave. Let me just say- great drinks and great food! We had a blast....some more than others (me included). Maybe it had something to do with the shots of patrone and double shots of SoCo w/lime. It was fun to kick back, laugh, and have a little fun! Donna, never order me Citron on the rocks again!!!!! FFANY!!

Donna, Taryn, Devin, and I had so much fun at FFANY! I met so many of our buyers and luckily we had the coffee/tea room next our hotel room. I am so envious of Janet from Atrium, when I brought up the luggage i'm lusting after, I found out shes just waiting to recieve hers! Thanx Alot Janet!!

So the last day was pretty wild! We had no heat at the hilton and they brought us a space heater... well on the 3rd day it blew up! and fire was spewing out like a dragon and I was afraid it was going to blow & donna was scared she was going to miss her online sample sale! Nothing like a little fire to get our day going!

By time we got back to our studio, we were worked!!

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

This week, while Donna, Devin, Taryn, and Alex were at the Ffany Trade Show...Julia, Theresa, and I decorated the Farylrobin office with the first ever Farylrobin tree. On Friday, Julia and Donna started planning the decorations. They went to Urban Outfitters and bought a little silver tree. At Urban, they also bought these bird ornaments which are perfect for Farylrobin:) To represent WeWhoSee, our private label, Donna found a little owl. Theresa tackled the dollar store and went crazy, buying stockings, gift boxes, snowman towels, santa claus wall hangings etc. To top things off, literally, on Monday, Julia and I went to K-mart to find the perfect tree topper- along with lights and a few additional ornaments for the tree. Here are a few photos from our day of decorating.

Enjoy.

Laura Goes to Paris, Part II

So here is the continuation of my travels around Paris. I think the most amazing place to visit is Versailles, outside of Paris. To see King Louie's palace is amazing. Do you know it started out as a royal hunting lodge? The weather was perfect for a fall day. The gardens are beautiful just before sunset. My advice is to take the tours around the palace, including the chateau with the famous "Hall of Mirrors," but save the gardens for last, just before the sun goes down. I have to thank my friend Emilie's mom, Dominique for being my tour guide. She is now my mom in paris!

Here are some photos of two famous monuments. First the Arc de Triomphe at night. I love this picture. It gives you the idea of how fast those little cars and bikes speed around the Arc. You know in order to get your driver's license in Paris, you have to drive around the Arc de Triomphe. It is a requirement.

I must have taken a zillion photos of the Eiffel Tower. Here are a few of my faves. I saw a man repel down the inside of the tower. In the photo you can see how big the structure actually is compared to a human. It's insane. And yes, he did repel head first!

Lastly, my friends in Paris who I adore---Thanks for showing me the City of Light! Victor, Antoine, Vahiana, Dominique, and Emilie:)

Laura goes to Paris!

First off, Victor captured the day beautifully in his blog. I had so much fun seeing him on the other side of the Atlantic for a change. He showed me the Paris you don't see unless you are a true parisian. I loved getting a glimpse into that world.

This was my first trip to Paris and I fell in love with the city...and the wine, fromage, and chocolate:) Here are some photos from my 10 days across the Atlantic. I stayed with my friend from college, Emilie who lives by the Parc Andre Citroen. It is a beautiful park with many different little gardens and a big balloon in the center lawn where you can go up and see the city from the sky. So peaceful...

I also when to many museums, including the Louvre! It is so big. I spent a day there and saw as much as I could. I had coffee in the Tuileries Garden by the Louvre. They were also selling pastries so I splurged and ordered two pastries, chocolate and apricot. The Lion's Gate and Pyramid are incredible. The historic mixed with modern. I met a crazy old frenchman who took a picture of me in front of the pyramid and kept insisting to take more pictures. I politely said merci and au revoir. I did see the Mona Lisa, but my favorite was Psyche Abandoned by Augustin Pajou, a french sculpture.

The Musee d'Orsay is where they have all of the impressionist's art. I took a rest on the 2nd level and accidentaly left my gray hat on the bench. I thought for sure it was gone for good. I heard this announcement over the speaker in french, spanish, and english saying that a missing item was found please contact a museum attendant. So I thought, why not, I'll see if it's my hat. I went to the info desk and said I was missing a hat. They sent me to the cloak room and sure enough they had my hat. I was amazed that someone had turned it in. Who says parisians aren't nice:)

I also went to the Musee Galliera which is a very small museum with an exhibit of 1920's fashion. It was amazing. I think I was the only American at that museum which is rare with all the tourists in the city. Let's just say I loved the vintage shoes! I couldn't take pictures though.

I have a lot more pics of Versailles and the gardens....so stay posted. They all can't fit in one blog:)

Keeping the Equilibrium

As Christopher, a Parisian nester, made his way to New York for Thanksgiving and to work with the New York office on the rockin' farylrobin holiday card, Laura, a New York nester, decided to come over to Paris. Life is full of checks and balances. Is it that they can't stand being even in the same country together or are they hiding a darker secret?

In any event, I got to spend a typical Parisian afternoon with Laura. Being a Paris virgin, I eased her in gently, being the gentleman tha
t I am. We met up at Café Beaubourg (fr's salon de la ville in Paris) with Antoine (a hidden webster-nester) having a café creme, chocolat chaud and express (who had what? well how well do you know us?).

After our 'this conversation doesn't leave this table' session, we had a stroll through the Marais, checking out the new crop of mod home deco stores; Fleux (striking the right balance of chic and kitsch) and Muji (the no name Japanese brand store, I know its an oxymoron, but still worth checking out) being the highlights.

Then it was on to some culture, hitting the Haut Marais galleries; Yvon Lambert, Thaddaeus Ropac, Karsten Greve. Most impressive was Kendell Geers' show entitled "Kannibale", a series of splattered black ink stencils. No two (not sure if they even are serial editions) are exactly alike. Its sort of an updated Warhol silkscreen with added messages of consumption apropos to our times.

By this time our cafés have worn off its effect, so we headed to the Murano's Vodka Bar. This extensive vodka selection watering hole is found in the boutique hotel, where some rooms have their own private swimming pools, best used in summer however. We all went for les experiences a selection of vodka by theme served in test tubes. Ironically this time we all chose the 'Sexy 'n Spicy' experience, which included Hot Red Pepper, Ginger, and Badian Anise.

We topped the evening chez Antoine, ordering in sushi and popping a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. When in Paris...

The accompanying photo is of Laura and I, in front of Antoine's Xmas tree.
